I was tasked with designing the native Nokia N900 mobile property for the Associated Press. It debuted at the N900 device launch in Barcelona. Its landscape-only orientation presented unique design challenges and an opportunity to present news in a different and compelling way. The success of the N900 design led the AP to move forward with other high-profile Nokia device experiences, including the N97 and stylus-equipped 5800 XpressMusic.
The design challenge was not only recreating the user experience on a different device, but doing so in a way that maintained the AP’s brand equity. Showing device capabilities and considering advertising needs were of utmost importance. Positive response from these designs spurred the company I was working for to use them as their default Nokia presentations for its entire publishing network.
